eBay Tips for Australians

Announcement
I now have two mini stores in partnership with eBay:
1. Cheap Baby Clothes
2. Cheap Baby Furniture

First things first

eBay has a lot of competition, most of it pathetic, but there is another online auction store in Australia which delivers some truly amazing deals. This is Grays Online - go check it out. A mate of mine got a $1500 projector for $115. That's right.

How to bid like a pro on eBay

ahh.. eBay. Hundreds of thousands of people have discovered the sheer delights of bidding on things they haven’t got sold by people they have never met.
As is apparent to even the most novice user, using eBay is fraught with danger but by following a few simple tips, you can bid like the best of them. More

Auction Snipers

Auction snipers bid on your behalf on eBay auctions at the last possible moment. This helps you avoid an all-out bidding war or making stupid bids out of excitement. Here's a couple - more can be found on Google. Both of these have a free service with limited access:

Some more expensive items that are great on eBay

Digital Cameras - a few overseas sellers have popped up selling cheap digital cameras into Australia. Here, things are drastically overpriced, so there's many good bargains to be had. I recently bought a digital SLR for my brother for $714 all paid. Nice. The main way you can trip up here is to buy a camera that seems cheap but is really rubbish. Buy brand name, always.
Computer parts - Buying an individual computer part can see you getting ripped at stores trying to cover the rent. Be careful, only buying from sellers with good reputations is especially important in this category. I bought a 300GB portable Hard Drive for another brother for a dirt cheap price this way.
Fridges - Slightly unconventional but people living in the big cities will be spoilt for choice. Obviously you'd be picking these up yourself. I got a huge one 2 years ago for a very low price and it's still running perfectly.
Other white goods - All sorts of white goods are being sold - unwanted presents, people moving overseas...

Little known ways to save on eBay

Stamps - That's right. Stamps. And not for collecting, either. You can buy books or rolls of stamps for up to 50% cheaper than buying from the post office.
Movie Tickets - If you head on over to the tickets/vouchers section you'll be able to bid on Village and Hoyts movie vouchers, and occasionally double passes to new films. The tickets generally go off for $10 each or less - a saving of $5 per movie if you are an adult.
Teeth whitening gel regularly pops up at quite a low price.
Children's and baby clothes appear at bargain basement prices, often good brands too.
Krispy Kreme - Buy one dozen, get one free. These vouchers are available for sale - and can be used 10 times.
Socks - Get a bulk lot of matching socks, don't worry about it again for a long time.
Golf clubs - Cheap, second hand sets of clubs are constantly going here.
